Q+A with Renata Quattro

What inspired you to write this book?

Bound by the edge of my lawn and driveway, with trails and parks closed, I found myself at a loss as many people did when the country went into lockdown due to Covid-19. A little precocious fur ball with the sweetest eyes I had ever seen jumped up onto my laptop while I was working from home. He was likely interested more in my trail mix but I like to pretend he really came to see me.
A 50lb bag of peanuts later, the little Chipmunk had a name NUTMEG. And his life was Nuts. Quite Literally. One picture turned into many pictures and an Instagram account with followers. Next thing I knew, I was on the phone with Tellwell and Nutmeg was getting his pictures in a book
Why did you decide to publish?
As Instagram started to grow, I regularly received positive feedback about how seeing Nutmeg’s post everyday made them feel better. People were really struggling with the ‘new 2020 Normal’, I am pretty sure no one liked it much. So it was very heart warming to hear that something like my photographs brightened someone’s day. As the comments kept coming and requests for a book kept coming, I finally made the decision to go ahead and publish Nutmeg in his world.
What do you hope readers discover by reading your book?
A photographer lives to invoke an emotional response to their work. I am hoping that my readers will get the same joy from my pictures as I did taking them and interacting with Nutmeg. My hope is to make you smile and forget about the world for a while.
